THE REALITY PRINCIPLE is a personal project divided in two series: No one knows and The point of no return, both made of analog photographs that I have taken since I was 19. Built like a personal documentary, these two series discuss my reflection in two different approaches associated with writing. The meaning of what we see always remains a certain silence. In a mysterious continuity, photography brings visuality, but nothing else. We do have to interpret what we see. All my pictures present an idea of an intimate truth, at a special moment of my life. Fragments of a reality, fragments of my reality.

I really began to learn about visual arts at University through the study of The Renaissance period in France, Italy, Spain and Germany. This iconography influenced me to work on the correlation between reality and belief. Belief is a truth that is not true for everyone, and as a non-believer, I still struggle about my responsibility regarding my personal choices, toward moral and pure instinct, what I think and what I see, what defines the known and the unknown. This reflection guided my perception, so I was constantly looking around and searching for clues and details. Consequently, the camera became the extension of my eyes in which I found one of the best ways to be true. The camera drove me to focus on reality, materiality and time, to catch and create Presence.

Photography is silent, and its silence is a promise of infinite meanings. Writing afterward brought a new component to the project, as a conclusion of these last 20 years of one and the same research: a possible outcome.

THE REALITY PRINCIPLE est d’abord un projet réalisé à partir de photographies argentiques prises et sélectionnées pendant près de vingt ans, de mes dix-neuf ans jusqu’à mes trente huit ans. Il est composé de deux séries distinctes No one knows et The point of no return, tournant autour des questions suivantes : Qu’ai-je vu ? Qu’ai-je tu ? Qu’ai-je su ?

Ce que nous voyons conserve toujours une part de silence. Dans cette mystérieuse continuité, la photographie nous donne à voir, mais rien d’autre, car nous devons interpréter ce que nous voyons. Au risque de se tromper, au risque de changer d’avis, au risque de se perdre, il faut apprendre à voir. No one knows est une série photographiée exclusivement en noir et blanc, The point of no return exclusivement en couleur. Elles s’écartent et se répondent, comme le font le réel et la réalité, le conscient et l’inconscient, l’intime et l’extime. Ce projet s’est construit sur le long terme, suivant un espace-temps aléatoire, à la fois visuel, poétique et autobiographique. J’ai décidé d’associer ces images à un travail d’écriture que j’ai commencé à développer à postériori, où les images seraient les questions et les mots seraient une tentative de réponse.

THE REALITY PRINCIPLE montre des moments de vérité, à certains stades de ma vie : des fragments d’une réalité, des fragments de ma réalité. L’écriture intervient ici comme une conclusion à ces vingt dernières années et permet l’aboutissement d’une forme de deuil inconscient.
